our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law. for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well. >> you know, we also use the word ambitious here, and there's no doubt it is ambitious and is it clear at this point exactly, andy, sort of how he's going to prioritize this? does the white house really think that they can make headway on all of these different items that they put forth in the agenda tomorrow? yesterday? >> the inauguration was very much a to-do list for the president and a very progressive, liberal to-do list as we've just explained. at the top of the list, obviously, is resolving the fiscal crises, the brinksmanship that we continue to go through here in washington. but gun control came up in the speech, newtown was referenced, the quiet lanes of newtown were referenced in the speech. that is on the top of the president's agenda as well. and he brought up climate change, this critical environmental issue, several times. especially compared to the one mentioned in his 2009 inauguration. so i

amendment rights of law abiding americans. congressman scalise, any attempt by president obama to take away gun rights will meet strong opposition in congress. it was senator rand paul who went the farthest. >> our founding fathers were very concerned about having a separation of powers, they didn't want to let the president become a king. i'm afraid that president obama may have this king complex sort of developing and we're going to make sure that it doesn't happen. >> i want to bring in the political report for the washington post and editor of citizen jane politics and contribute for to the daily beast. let's start with the campaign push for this because we did see it work to help raise taxes on the rich. what does the president need to do this time around, do you think, patricia? >> i think he really needs to change the dynamic of what senators and congressmen are hearing from their constituents, and we see him doing that. the president knows when we look at national polls, the majority of americans are in favor of stricter gun control, but in states that are dedicated to kee

suicide of her friend and former law partner vince foster who was the white house counsel. big investigation into whether anything nefarious happened there. turned out nothing but his very sad depression. you know, whitewater. lots of other things, you know, just didn't really pan out in a way that stopped her from going on to be elected. twice as a u.s. senator from new york and from a -- nearly getting the democratic nomination in 2008 and being secretary of state. so my point in the piece in the national journal was if you keep crying wolf essentially about someone, it's very hard for the, you know, 39th time you do it for it to stick. >> not only that but she's obviously gotten very practiced at how to deal with these kinds of situations. although she did become emotional when talking about those killed in the benghazi consulate, including ambassador stevens. let me play that. >> for me, this is not just a matter of policy. it's personal. i stood next to president obama as the marines carried those flag-draped caskets off the plane at andrews. i put my arms around the mothe

tighter gun control laws, 52% want illegal immigrants who hold jobs to apply for legal status. so, liz, what are his second term priorities going to be? what are we going to hear from him? >> well, look, i think he's already signaled what they're going to be. he's made it very clear that big immigration package is going to be put together. he feels a need to address gun control in the wake of newtown. and, you know, he's going to have to face the tax issue, as well. it's not just raising the debt ceiling that he's going to have to deal with. but he's going to have to negotiate with the republicans and perhaps try to change the tax code. all of these things are things he's already signaled he wants to do. what's fascinating is that this is a president who wanted to be a domestic president in the last -- in his first term and he was saddled with an economic situation and two wars to deal with. now is a shot to be that domestic president and make some really big change. but he's going to have to work with republicans in the house in order to get big things accomplished. >> and clearl
